GETTING BACK TO BUSINESS….

This past year has been rough …. but I have decided to make things better I must actually do something  CONSTRUCTIVE about it.  So I am going to working on my weight and health,  try and improve my mood by getting back to the things I love…. quilting, blogging and podcasting.

First thing …. evaluate my UFOs …. see what they need and get going on them.  I have to know where I have been before I can decide where to go and what to do next.

I also have to decide what stops me from doing what I want and   “destroying”  whatever is blocking my goals  ….. For example,  I often say I need to clean the sewing area, the room, the house before I get started.  Since I hate house cleaning I put it off for as long as I could till the day was gone.   In the past I have found that if I jump into the quilting project I get energized for other things and then cleaning is not as much of a “chore” and I actually get around to doing it.  Win-Win for me… I spend time doing the things I love and then actually have the energy and interest to do  chores during or after my crafting time.  ( I am always surprised at how much laundry I get washed and put away during my quilting time. After all I have to free up the washing machine to pre-wash fabric. )

I am going to stop blathering now and get to the point of this post.  I am listing my shameful list of UFOs.  Many of these projects I have blogged about before so they will look old to you.  I start many project because I get intrigued by a technique or a pattern that I want to try.  I get started then I stop because something happens in life or I hit a roadblock in my quilting or I have lost interest in the project.  This year my goal is to finish my UFOs.

HERE is my incomplete list of projects   ….

  1. I spent the last year cleaning out my sewing room. My children put all the extra boxes in my sewing room when we moved. That took several months just to go through all the stuff. Now I have started going through my sewing things. In the meantime, I have two quilts I would like to finish by next fall to give each of my children on their anniversaries. I have found a local homeless shelter that takes fabric and incomplete projects. They are teaching sewing to anyone who wants to learn. They have been getting several bags each month. I found baby projects started when my daughter was small and now she is 30. I too am giving away material I will no longer use. Now I must go through and prioritize the projects that are left. I too am back to my blog page (Nebraska quilter). Good luck, I will be following you closely.

  2. I second Diane’s “Welcome back.” I’ve been sidelined this past year so I am hoping I find the time and energy to do more of what I love as well.

  3. Believe me, I so relate to your post! I am being forced to downsize since we are moving and I’ve found that it has given me great joy to get rid of (as in donate) those things that no longer are to my taste. I have two charities that I’ve been donating all the fabric and projects that I just don’t care about any more. Having been a quilter for almost 40 years, I have too much stuff. My tastes have changed and I will not move stuff that someone else can get joy from….I also don’t want our sons to end up having to deal with it. Even with my downsizing, I still have enough to last the rest of my life! So I can’t help you with the house cleaning (I don’t score very high there myself), but do free yourself of those things that no longer bring you joy. I rejoice at each box of stuff that leaves this house! As someone who has been in chronic back pain for eight years (car accidents), I can so relate to not feeling like doing anything. Have to take it one day at a time!

    1. I have been donating stuff …. including DH’s stuff that he no longer uses…every week I go to GOODWILL or SALVATION ARMY or HABITAT … SLOWLY things are clearning. I have made myself a pledge to get moving and start doing the activities I love.

THANKS FOR THE COMMENT … IT IS GOOD TO KNOW I HAVE BEEN MISSED.
