  1. Nonnie’s…. I’ve been using four patches.. as my leaders and Enders for some time…. I’m using your “favorite”. Civil War fabrics, and shirting so…. I make the four patches I yo 16 patches, then join them…. The goal us a postage stamp quilt… The four patches are 4.5 inches…. They are addicting!

    1. I do not think I could ever do anything that small…. I find the older I get the more I like to get a quilt finished so I make BIGGER PATCHES.

I also find that I have less storage space so scraps are given to friends / the guild as they are really into scrappy quilts … although I am doing a series of scrappy blocks but after awhile the same fabrics show up to often, I am tired of the fabric or my scraps are too small so I get rid of them.

      1. Nonnie…. I’m not really into small pieces, either… My eyes won’t allow it…m the 4-patches seem to wotk, though… I strip piece the twosies… NOT going to deal with tiny squares…and that helps…

I’m sure your guild us more than happy to receive yours scraps…, that’s very generous of you.

Speaking of scraps.. Jenny Doan’s usual Friday tutorial was a great one gir using up scraps. I’m thinking of doing a small one…..

Wishing you a wonderful, quilty weekend!

        Sandy

        1. I used the tail of several leftover jelly rolls about 12-18 inches matching either with smaller 2.5 inch scrap square or other lengths of 2.5 inch strips … that results in efficient sewing and in an entire quilt they get “lost” and know one can tell I have duplicate fabrics. I then sub cut everything into the correct size patch. Strip sewing is so efficient. Only rule I have is to use some light colors but no white in my patches since that is my background fabric planned for my quilt.

Lately this is what I call mindless sewing I try to sew (32) 2 patch each night at the end of the sewing session so I can make a 16 patch block in the future. I feel so productive when I can get these blocks done at the end of a sewing session.

          1. I like mindless sewing…. Maybe that’s why I find making 4-patches do addicting… I make short strips…as suggested by Bonnue Hunterm to get lots if variety…. I line a bunch up, and use my Stripologyb ruler to cut the twosies …. Jenny Doan suggests that you press the units open after cutting… I find this helps with accuracy…

I use precuts, whenever I can… Jenny has taught us that you can make beautiful quilts with precuts…. Quilts that look complex….but aren’t…. I like that, a lot…

I hope all is well with your daughter, and grandson, and that you are feeling good… And enjoying your retirement…

  2. Ido happy to find a new podcast…. You’ve been missed… I like the way you actually say what you think…. It’s so refreshing….
