This ride is about 30 minutes through parkland and to the turn around on an old rail system. This railway once connected Detroit to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It use to be an annual event for our family and any guests we had when my daughter was little.

The custom is now being revived with this new generation. We took my grandson. We walked the entire museum village stopping to see Santa, riding the carousel, an outdoor pony and cart ride and the Ferris wheel. Temperature was moderate at about 35 degrees. He loved it. We also saw a cute little one act play based on a Christmas Carol. He was not so thrilled with the performance and kept asking, “Why was the ghost scaring that fat man?” His voiced carried in the small theater. We also went in several village shops that sold Christmas items, old-fashion toys and some hand crafted items donated to the museum from the volunteer group.

I got to see a demonstration on hand piecing quilt blocks. The demonstrator was working on a crazy patch quilt with a variety of embroidery stitches. Since I was the only visitor in the house we discussed the DEAR JANE quilt.

Our ticket was for the last train of the day, I found out after talking to several museum workers that we were lucky to be able to get any ticket since the ticket for all the other rides had sold out the previous day. The last ride was added on earlier that afternoon. My advice to anyone wanting to ride the HUCKLE BERRY RAILROAD is buy your tickets on line in advance or you might be disappointed.
